Aldershot Cricket Club welcomes young players, boys and girls, between the ages of 7 and 17, and is always looking for new members to join our Cricket Club. We consider our Youth Section to be the future of the Club, and a great deal of time and effort is spent encouraging and developing young players. Over the years, this has been of great benefit to the senior sides, and we hope this continues into the future. We have a large and very active set up, with 120 members at present, and play competitive cricket from Under 9’s onwards. We provide opportunities for young people, regardless of gender, colour, race, religion, age, ethnic or national origins, and disability, to receive coaching and play in competitive matches. The Club is very proud of what it has achieved over the past years in developing cricket within the local community, and was awarded the prestigious England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) /Sport England's Clubmark accreditation in January 2006. Clubmark: demonstrates that the Club is committed to providing a safe, effective, child friendly environment and has effective procedures and policies aligned the ECB “Safe Hands Policy” - Welfare of Young People in Cricket Policy: http://www.ecb.co.uk/ecb/child-welfare
Aims
1. Our aim is of course to introduce children to cricket, but also to build the future of our Club and for cricket in general. By having teams at every age group we aim to keep youngsters interested in the game from Junior School, through Secondary School and on past those years when other distractions can often become more important than all the years of practice they have put in to improving their game. They can then get the best of both worlds, the social aspects of the game of cricket combined with the healthy attitude gained from playing a game that combines the best of both a team and an individual sport.
2. Providing cricket for all in the community by: · encouraging participation at all levels both on and off the field · provide a safe environment for all our members · providing coaching and practice · encouraging the best standards of behaviour and sportsmanship · being a focus for cricket in our community, and by working in partnership with the local schools . promote grass route cricket.
Chance to Shine Scheme
'Chance to Shine' is a project launched this year by the ECB to encourage cricket in secondary schools. Only 100 clubs in the country were invited to take part in 2006 and Aldershot as one of the leading Focus Clubs in Hampshire was one of those. The 'Chance to Shine' scheme which we ran was so successful that were asked to continue in 2007 and 2008. We worked with 6 secondary schools in school time, ran an indoor tournament, an outdoor league for year 7s and continued the Year 6 league for the junior schools, and of course the Kwik Cricket tournament for Years 4, 5 and 6 which is now in it's 16th year.
